Getting in to Indonesia
Coming to Bali?
Before you arrive, there are a few important things to take care of. From your visa and arrival declaration to getting connected and arranging your airport transfer, here’s what you need to know before you travel to Bali.
BEFORE YOU ARRIVE
1. Check your visa requirements
Your visa requirements depend on your nationality and how long you plan to stay in Indonesia. For a holiday in Bali, these are the options most relevant to our guests:
Visa Free Entry
Citizens of certain countries can enter Indonesia without a visa for up to 30 days. This entry cannot be extended. Check the current list of eligible countries on the official Indonesian Immigration website. If you are not eligible for visa-free entry, tourists have the following options depending on the length of their stay:
Visa on Arrival (VoA)
The VoA allows an initial stay of 30 days and can be extended once for another 30 days, giving a maximum stay of 60 days.
Longer stays – up to 6 months
The C1 Tourist Visa allows an initial stay of 60 days, which can then be extended several times, up to a maximum of 180 days.
2. How to get your Visa
There are TWO options for visas :
1. Apply for a Visa online
Please use the Official Ministry of Immigration E-VISA website only. We recommend applying at least 14 working days before your arrival to allow enough time for processing. Visa will be emailed to you.
Tip: Have a recent passport-style photo and a clear copy of your passport ready before you start your application. Make sure all details match your passport exactly.
2. Purchase your Visa on Arrival (VOA)
If you didn’t pre-purchase a visa, no problem! The 30-day Visa on Arrival can easily be purchased at the airport. Simply follow the signs for the Visa on Arrival counter before going through immigration. Major currencies and credit cards are accepted.
2. Complete your arrival declaration
All international travellers arriving in Indonesia need to complete the All Indonesia electronic customs declaration. You can complete it within 3 days of travelling.
3. Check your passport
Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your arrival date and you may need a return or onward ticket. Make sure your passport is also in good condition. Torn, damaged or loose pages can result in you being refused boarding or entry.
OTHER USEFUL TIPS
1. Getting from the airport
Bali airport can be busy and chaotic, especially when you first arrive. To avoid confusion, waiting around and wasting time after a long flight, we recommend booking your airport transfer directly with your hotel.
2. Getting connected
A local SIM or eSIM makes getting around Bali much easier. Telkomsel generally offers the best coverage across Bali and Indonesia. There are kiosks at the airport where you can easily purchase one.
3. Money
There are a handful of ATMs at the airport, but if you need to exchange cash, you’ll generally find better rates outside the airport.
Cash or Cards? Cards are widely accepted at hotels, restaurants and larger businesses, but you’ll still want some Indonesian rupiah for smaller shops, local warungs, markets and parking.
